Help Us Reach 1,000 Twitter Followers

Since we started tweeting three years ago, we’ve garnered a steady following. Recently, our following skyrocketed, adding 50% more followers since the beginning of this year. We tweet about a wide range of topics, including industry news, product announcements, educational opportunities, and important service announcements. Occasionally, we even tweet about company events and employee accomplishments to give you a peek behind the scenes at Eyefinity.

Most importantly, we tweet timely, relevant information that can benefit your practice.

That thing the kids are talking about these days… It could help bring your practice patients and additional revenue.

You’ve probably heard about one of these social networking websites in the media: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace. Those are just three of dozens of social networking and information sharing websites on the Internet today.  So, should you and your practice “plug in” to these social networks?

This is a great time for optometric practices to ride the wave of social networking.  Joining most social networks is free, and provides you exposure to thousands of people in your local community and beyond.  In essence, you can begin to market your practice and its services online – via social networking – for no cost.  Beyond marketing, it’s important to communicate the value you and your practice provide through your services and in the community.  So, how do you communicate value using this type of technology?

Practices can use social networking to announce new frame lines or the importance of lens technologies. Have you added Emilio Pucci or Fendi to your frame collection?  This would be a great opportunity to post a “tweet” on Twitter.  Or, educate your patients and potential new customers on the importance of UV protection and children’s eyewear via Facebook.  These are just a few examples to help promote your practice on social networking.

Social networking will bring you patients and referrals with little to moderate effort.  If you’re looking to get started with social networking, I highly recommend this guide I found from Transitions that shows you how to get your practice on Facebook.

Is your practice already immersed in the social networking world? Leave us a comment and share advice or tips for those looking to dip their toe into the water.

Good luck and happy Social Networking!

What Is Twitter?
Twitter is a social networking website that has exploded in popularity over the last several months. It seems like everybody is talking about it, and you can’t watch the evening news or read a magazine without some mention of Twitter. Tweets poured out of Iran this summer, telling the rest of the world what is happening amidst riots and protests over questionable election results. Even Time magazine ran a cover story in its June 5th edition pronouncing “How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live.” You can read the Time story here. Indeed, Twitter is connecting people and information in a fashion that was unimaginable just a few years ago.

Okay, so Twitter is a hot topic, but what is it? Twitter allows users to send “tweets” (or microblogs), messages no longer than 140 characters in length. Other Twitter users can follow you and read your tweets. Tweets sent by people a user follows are aggregated and displayed on a single page in reverse chronological order. So, at a glance, a user can quickly scan tweets of varying topics posted by many people. Users can follow or be followed by thousands of people (or, in the case of actor Ashton Kutcher, over two million followers).

Now Blogging: Eyefinity!

Jim McGrann is President of Eyefinity/OfficeMate

Greetings,

Welcome to the Eyefinity blog! Many of you are already following us on Twitter and this blog is our latest adventure into the world of social media.

Social media is changing the way we live and interact every day. More and more people are using it in some way, from my 18-year-old daughter using Facebook to keep in touch with friends in college and family at home, to my college roommate, now a NASA astronaut who was the first person to “tweet” from space while he worked to repair the Hubble Telescope a few months back. The possibilities seem endless.

Our blogging crew consists of Eyefinity employees, but will also feature guest blogs from eyecare professionals. We’ll be posting on relevant industry issues including eyecare technology and solution news, tips and educational resources for Eyefinity users, product news and much more. We hope the blog will give you some more insight into who we are at Eyefinity and how we contribute to the success of ECPs.

If you’re in Las Vegas this weekend for Vision Expo West, stop by our booth (# 13063) and say hello. We would love to chat with you.

Thanks for reading,

– Jim
