In a few weeks, the entire optical industry will be converging on New York City to explore all the new frames, software, lenses, and more. Now is the time to pencil in a visit to the Eyefinity booth 1235 at Vision Expo East.
We’ve compiled the official (and totally unbiased) list of everything you absolutely cannot miss at the show.
Crowds, booths, classes, oh my! There’s a lot going on at Vision Expo West, so we’ve compiled some must-know tips for VEW first timers.
Don’t Go Hangry (hunger and anger aren’t a good combo in Vegas) Head over to the Food Court no later than 11:30 a.m. By noon, you’re more likely to win the jackpot than avoid a massive line.
To avoid the afternoon crash, stop by Eyefinity booth 13065 at 2 p.m. every day for a free pick-me-up snack. We’ll have a variety of treats like margaritas, chips and salsa, wine, and a charcuterie board. If you need something sweet, come by on Thursday at 2 p.m. for cupcakes and raffle prizes in celebration of Eyefinity EHR’s 5th Birthday!
Vision Expo West isn’t cheap ($40 buffets…crazy!). However, VEW can be an important investment for your practice. Here are five ways to ensure you make the most out of this year’s show:
Get a sweet deal. Come by the Eyefinity booth 13065 to find out how you can get special pricing on Eyefinity cloud solutions. Think of it as optometry’s Black Friday!
Connect with your peers. The Las Vegas strip will be hopping with networking events during VEW. Check out a list of just some of the happy hours, receptions, and breakfasts you might want to attend.
Enjoy free food! Every day at 2 p.m. we’re offering free food and drinks. Swing by on Thursday at 2 p.m. for special cupcakes in celebration of Eyefinity EHR’s 5th Birthday!
Don’t be a stranger! We’d love to see you at booth 13065 to show you how Eyefinity EHR can help your practice.
The “cloud” is a vague tech term that doesn’t provide any context clues as to what it can do for optometric practices. Let’s breakdown what the cloud is, and how it directly relates to your practice.
What is the Cloud?
At its core, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet, instead of a computer hard drive in your practice.
What is a Cloud-Based EHR or Practice Management Solution?
Cloud-based electronic health records (EHR) and practice management solutions allow a practice to access, work, and securely store data, such as patient demographics, exams, and lab orders, in one secure online location that’s accessible via the Internet, wherever you happen to be.
Electronic health records and practice management solutions aren’t stored on a server or computer, but are securely stored and accessed via almost any device with a Web browser, app, and Internet connectivity.
Pick your classes, pack your most comfortable shoes, make dinner reservations— Vision Expo West is just around the corner! Here are 4 things we bet you didn’t know about VEW.
VEW is so big that 5 football fields would fit inside the exhibit space.
About 24% of attendees are optometrists (based off Vision Expo West 2016)
VEW is truly international! Last year, almost 200 international exhibitors attended VEW, representing 16 countries.
We can’t wait for another fantastic VEW! Visit us at booth #17114 and #MS 12043 to learn how you can get a $1,000 gift card and qualify for huge monthly savings with a purchase of Eyefinity EHR.
Hello from the other side. I am happy to report that all is going great with our implementation of Eyefinity EHR. I was never really worried about it, but I did have first day jitters. The nervousness is really more of a mind game than anything else. It is funny how you are either excited to get started or nervous about the unknown. We always try to keep a positive perspective, as it changes the outcome and outlook of the day for the better. Continue reading →
One of the last things you will do as you prepare to go live with Eyefinity EHR is a final “checkout” with your Implementation Specialist. What I loved about the checkout is that it inspired me to hammer out those last 20 charts. It was wonderful to see how much faster I was at completing a chart in Eyefinity EHR than in ExamWRITER (and I am pretty good with ExamWRITER if I might say so myself!).
In my opinion, what makes Eyefinity EHR faster is that it “remembers me.” With its intuitive programming, the most common diagnoses I see in my area are at my fingertips as well as my most common treatments and return visits. It is like having a chair-side assistant that learns your every move and anticipates the next one for you. I still make all of the final decisions, of course. However, the options I want most are designed to be easy to find.
In addition to the doctors, all the technicians do a final checkout as well. As we all went through our checkout, it was low-stress and a positive teaching experience to have the specialist there with us. The checkout is one more teaching moment that brings it all together and inspires your practice to get going.

Everyone was on schedule in our office with training and our date of final certification and installation was set. The plan was to go live after returning from our first ever big vacation with the kids. The third day of our trip, I was walking along on the cobblestone streets of Paris pointing out where van Gogh and Picasso lived when the next thing I knew, I was on the ground and my ankle was swelling quickly. To make a long story short, I couldn’t walk and had no idea if my ankle was broken or sprained until I returned home several days later. Running through my mind, of course, was the question of how this was going to impact my life not only at the moment but also when I returned to the office.
With any other change in my office, I would have been in a panic. However, with going from ExamWRITER to Eyefinity EHR, I knew I didn’t have to worry. I called the office and moved our “Go Live” date back a little bit in case I would have to be out of the office when I returned or unable to work at full speed. It is important to be prepared and plan ahead. However, when life gets in the way, it is also important to regroup, set a new date, and move on. It has been a blessing to work with Eyefinity because their onboarding system and their team are so helpful and flexible when life happens.

Do you remember the days of paper charts where we had a form which had all the normal findings on it? If a patient had all normal findings, we just circled all of them and saved ourselves boatloads of time! I think these forms are the primary reason doctors complain that EHR systems slow them down. What my team loves about Eyefinity EHR is that when all the findings are normal, we can select one button that marks the entire exam as normal and it auto populates. It feels a lot like the old days with paper. An EHR should make us more efficient, not less so; look for these features and follow this blog to read about them as I learn them with you.
