In 2016, an estimated $390.05 billion was given to U.S. charities according to Giving USA. “Why is Steve sharing this fact with me?” you ask. In my opinion, the foundation on which Optometry is built is giving back.
Think about it: as an eye care professional, you give back sight, which in turn gives patients a new lease on life and sometimes profoundly so! When I meet with Eyefinity clients, I’m always struck by the dedication to charitable giving – not just in terms of community sponsorships but also through in-kind donations of their time. Giving back is something we deeply believe in at Eyefinity. While brainstorming this blog post, I got curious about what causes our employees support. The list was staggering and included Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross, Loaves and Fishes, the SPCA, Make a Wish, Habitat for Humanity, and more. It makes me proud!
To me, the foundation of moving our communities forward together is thinking beyond ourselves. World Sight Day is October 12. I will be following the hashtags #shareforsight, #WSD2017, and #WorldSightDay on social media, as well as contributing content using the hashtag #ForwardTogether. Whether you participate by raising awareness through a social media post or giving a vision exam on the ground, I’d love to know what you will do this month in a comment below.
