When my youngest daughter Annie was four years old, we were vacationing in Hawaii enjoying the beach and the quiet pace of life. One night as we were getting ready to go out for dinner, I asked Annie, “Where are your shoes?”  She innocently recalled that the last time she’d seen them was three or four days earlier. Isn’t that what vacation is all about? That moment has been an anchor for me for many years – a reminder to live in the now. It applies in my work life as well. Maybe you have a similar story.

As much as I appreciate getting away from it all, when you enjoy what you do, you also look forward to getting back to it. What I’ve noticed in my years of working in the optometric industry is that by and large, optometrists love what they do! They love making a difference in their patients’ lives; they love the connections they build in the community. It’s this commitment that makes a profound impact on the world we live in. Time passes quickly when you’re lost in your work. That’s when you know you’re doing the right thing.

I recently bought a card game called “Calling Cards.” It’s a lot of fun. I’ve used it with the Eyefinity team as well as with my family. The game is designed to help you identify what your calling in life is. Sometimes resources like these also help to develop and retain good talent. Either way, I encourage you to put a small amount of focus on it. Ask yourself what delights you. Where you lose track of time. I would love to learn what you discover in the comments below. #ForwardTogether.
